Spring Fundraising Dinner

Jun 22nd, 2010 by elizabeth | 0

The Loving Hands Clinic wishes to thank the Metamora Golf Club and Country Club, its new owners, and to Rick Fleming, for hosting this year’s annual Spring Fundraising Dinner in support of the Loving Hands Clinic on Monday, May 17.More than 50 people were treated to a wonderful buffet prepared by executive chef, Jeff, and presented by their wonderful staff. The dinner was wonderful, the venue was outstanding. We would also like to thank those of you who were not able to attend, but generously supported the clinic by your financial contributions.Guest were treated to a beautiful guitar serenade before, during, and after dinner from Kevin Herzog, Dr. Nancy Brinker, medical director of the Loving Hands Clinic, and Cathy Johnson, executive director, presented a brief overview of the clinic’s services, community contributions, future plans and activities. The clinic began offering services six years ago to adult residents of Lapeer County who are uninsured, underserved and have an income at 200 percent of poverty. Since that time, the Medical and Dental Clinics, the clinic’s host, Maple Grove Church, and the clinic’s volunteer primary care physicians, dentists, nurses, dental hygienists, physical therapists and our wonderful administrative staff, have contribute more than $1.1 million in donated services to the residents of this community. The clinic still needs more volunteer primary-care providers willing to volunteer a few hours a month at the clinic, along with medical and dental specialists willing to see an occasional patient from the clinic in their office. With more than 85 volunteers it is difficult to thank each and every one of them here, but I would like to especially thank the volunteer contributions of our volunteer doctors and dentists, our physicians assistants, family nurse practitioners, physical therapists and our nursing and hygienists supervisors. Thank you Medical Director Nancy Brinker, DO, Robert T. Brengel, DO, Baha Essak, MD, Edwin DeLange, DO, Henry Nichols, DDS, David Noffert, DDS, Jules Rheinhardt, DO, Dental Clinic Director, Paul Schmude, DDS, Dr. Wm Starbird, MD, family nurse practitioners Anita Harrand, C-FNP, Karen Kegler, C-FNP, Marsha Schultz, PA, Nursing Supervisor, Kay Millies- Wright, RN, MSN, Dental Hygienist Supervisor, Sally Potter, physical therapists Toni Edwards and Thibodeau Physical Therapy. We would also like to thank Spiritual Team Supervisor, Elizabeth Gillim, for always making sure that our patients feel welcomed and loved on their arrival to the clinic. Thanks to Jean Bonior for making sure someone our front desk is ready to greet each of our patients on their arrival with a smile. I would also like to thank those medical specialists in the community who have so generously donated their time, when asked, to see a patient truly in need. You know who you are. Lastly, I would like to thank Vicky Kozak, the best right hand person you could ask for; for always being there with a word of encouragement and a logical solutions to even the hardest tasks.Bless you all. If you would like more information about the clinic, or if you would like to volunteer please call the clinic at 810-667-8933.Cathleen JohnsonExecutive director Loving Hands Clinic

State Rep. cuts pay, donates his salary to charity

Jun 1st, 2009 by admin | 0

Freshman State Rep. Kevin Daley (R-Lum) and his wife Debbie are donating 10 percent of the salary he earns as a state lawmaker to eight Lapeer County charities (including Loving Hands).

82nd District Rep. Daley decided to make the donation after the legislature delayed cutting its own pay until 2011.

“I think lawmakers were trying to trick people a little bit by voting for a pay cut that doesn’t take effect for another two years,” Daley said. “Families across the state are being forced to tighten their belt; state government should do the same. I’m trying to do the right thing and lead by example.”

Rather than simply return a portion of his salary to the state treasury, where he wouldn’t have any control over how the money is used, Daley said it would be better to donate to local organizations close to home.
